Humanist Community of Leeds

About Us

The Humanist Community of Leeds was founded at the end of 2009 by trustees of the Chris Worfolk Foundation who wanted to build a community for non-believers to come together. As such we began planning a new group which would allow humanists in Leeds to get together, meet new friends and have fun in a secular environment.

The group is designed to be a secular alternative to church. Church provides a lot of good points - it brings people together, provides a ready made social network, allows you to meet new people - it's a community! It's just such a shame that you have to have all the religion and superstition thrown in with it. We believe this is wrong. We don't think there is anything religious about people coming together and enjoying each others company, indeed we believe if anything this is a humanist idea!

Currently our meetings are held on the first Sunday of each month at the Cosmopolitan Hotel.

What can I expect?

Our events don't last long - they are designed to run for about an hour and include a mixer of different things so you won't get bored. We have news on what has happened in the freethought community the past month, funny videos and a short talk.

If you want to stay around afterwards and get to know people more you can also join us for Sunday lunch which takes place directly after the meeting.
